A security breach at Yahoo! may have exposed nearly half a million email addresses and passwords. Hackers are taking credit for the attack and claim they posted data with login credentials on their web site. Read more in this Associated Press report. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is aware of one user's account that was used to email a scam claiming the woman needed money sent to her overseas. There is no way to know if that email is related to this breach, but now is a good time to remind friends and family members to ensure their email passwords are as secure as possible, and to disregard unusual emails without confirming the information with the supposed sender directly. In addition, a blank email the contains only an Internet link is most likely a virus. Just click delete.
